Independent Sexual Violence Advocate (ISVA)

Our ISVA is a trained specialist offering practical and emotional support to anyone over the
age of 19 who has reported rape or sexual abuse to the police, or is considering it.
Your ISVA is a friendly face who will support you though the whole process, from your
initial complaint all the way through to the trial and beyond. This process can be lengthy
and difficult, and your ISVA is here to make it a little easier through support, advocacy
and information.
Your ISVA can:
- Give you advice and support to help you think through your options
- Provide face to face or telephone support at crucial times throughout the process
- Support you through statement taking with the police
- Keep you up to date with your case
- Attend court with you
- Explain some of the legal jargon and processes
- Support you whatever the outcome of your report to the police
- Give advice on the criminal and civil remedies available to you
- Work with you to make sure you are safe
- Provide warm introductions to other specialist services you may need
- Help with accessing counselling with Derbyshire Rape Crisis
Overall your ISVA is dedicated to supporting you after an experience of sexual violence.
